THE WORLD CHURCH
by B.H. Clendennen
Revelation 17:4-5, “And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a gold cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
Without the false prophet there can never be an anti-christ, and there can never be a world government without a world church. Every student of prophecy has seen as a part of the final drama of this age a world church would emerge. Under the skilled hand of the false prophet a system would arise to take complete authority of what is to be believed. Since man is a product of what he thinks whatever controls his thinking will enslave him. A repeat of the dark ages on a larger scale appears to be the prophetic vision, and the fulfillment of that vision is very apparent today.
The apostle John marveled at this harlot system when he saw her in the book of Revelation. I also am astounded when I see men, who have known God, blinded by that same whore, and yet they are looked upon as being prophets and leaders of Christianity. I am astounded that there are those in high places, leaders of once great movements, who have not learned, or have chosen to forget, that you cannot mix paganism and Christianity. Believing themselves to be wiser than God, these blind leaders of the blind have failed to see that the final phase of the world church will be an amalgam of all the great religions of the world.
We are dealing with that which will bring about the final give up of God, and usher in the judgment of the tribulation. There was no doubt in the minds of the prophets that there would be this perverted mixture—which would be called Christianity by men in the final days—but exactly how it was to be brought into being was the question. They knew that the Word of God had to be set aside as the final authority, but how Satan would bring about this darkness had to be the question that most occupied the minds of those who wrote the scriptures. But that which was a mystery to the prophets has become obvious to us upon whom the end has come.
At the turn of the twentieth century the German theologians, under the guise of progressive education, subjected the Bible to what they called higher criticism, thus opening the way for its great truths, the virgin birth, the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, in fact all that is supernatural, to be questioned. Thus we have millions who belong to what men call the church, who cannot give an answer for the hope that is in them. Blinded by the devil these deceived souls are constantly being tossed too and fro with every wind and doctrine, not knowing what they believe they try to believe everything.
Before such a system could be a reality, certain basic things had to undergo radical change. Number one, the fundamental voice of Christianity had to be silenced in the religious area. The greatest enemy of the gospel is religion; religion has come to replace Christ. Great pressure had to be placed upon those who proclaimed that salvation was in Christ alone.
Our problem isn’t the homosexual on the street, our problem is the perversion of the Gospel in the pulpit of the church. Everything in life is relative or related in its own working. God is not related to sin, nor is sin related to God. But everything in the sphere of sin is related. The atrocious sins that you and I are seeing today are only the mutation of the original sin. The deeper truths that you may know about the Word of God are only an outgrowth of the truth that you knew yesterday. Everything is related. When you know this you can look back and track the church into the desert land of apostasy. When men begin to place emphasis on the wrong thing, you are headed in the wrong direction.
God’s word to His Church is “Go ye therefore into all the world and teach all nations.” The word ‘teach’ means to disciple. The main verb of that sentence is not go, it is teach. We send before we disciple; we have put the emphasis on going but God has put it on being. No man ought to go anywhere until he first becomes something.
A careful reading of the Bible will reveal that God works along this line. God calls a man, gives him a message, and uses some method and means to get that message out. Over emphasis on the method has led to the gimmicks of religion. Putting the total emphasis on man has led to popery. Both Protestantism and Romanism have produced their own forms of popery. Paul said, “I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it (the message) is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Rom 1:16). The early Church put the total emphasis on the message, they reached their generation.
For a world church to emerge, this had to be changed. The word of God had to be set aside as the iron clad rule of faith. To bring about this change old and stated truths were openly questioned by those in authority. In Pentecostal circles the truths that we lived by were questioned and discarded because they stood in the way of success. Great emphasis is now placed on human love and experience while doctrinal purity is played down. To bring about this change an imitation spirit, a false baptism, had to be introduced. The grounds of fellowship are no longer what we believe, it is whether you can talk in tongues or not.
Before this anti-Christ spirit could invade the Pentecostal it had to recruit big names that were highly respected and bring them into this kind of thinking. With the pressure coming from men whose ministry had affected millions, the Spirit filled church was deceived into believing that God has changed and was now filling the idolatrous with the Holy Spirit. With the Church so compromised, Satan has no opposition in bringing about the conditions that will warrant a world government. Every major upheaval, including the one now in the making, has been planned and executed by this anti-Christ conspiracy; the Napoleonic wars, French Revolution, World War I, the great depression, World War II, racial strife, Vietnam, Korea, all were designed and executed to prepare and make ready for the man of sin. We have arrived; the world mind is ready to accept the anti-Christ. Whoever can settle the problems of this world is the man they are going to accept.
There had to arrive on the world scene a man who had the power to change laws and beliefs to fit the occasion. His influence on the world must be such as to make kings and rulers listen. That man has arrived. The theme and content of his message must be world peace, not peace through the gospel, but through world politics; peace through political control. There is only one man alive who fits this description. Papal Rome is widely respected and admired by the world. She is seen as well organized, successful, and influential, as well as dignified and authoritative. The aura of uncritical acclaim around the person of successive popes is unique to the Church of Rome. No other institution has it. Her pronouncements on moral issues carry great weight. So well regarded is the Papacy today that her acceptance extends even to the Evangelicals, most of whom have ceased to question her doctrines. There has never been a world citizen equal to the Pope of Rome. He is revered by the masses every where. When he speaks Ex Cathedra, he is said to be infallible, he can change beliefs.
The world had to silence the voice that speaks against him. At one time, we were all over this nation, using 72 TV stations, on one occasion I spoke against the Mormon Church, I received calls from T.V. stations telling me that if I wanted to stay on the station I must not speak against any religion. “Don’t voice your opinion against religion. All must fall in line. When the change comes, all must accept the change. If you don’t accept the change, you are going to be labeled a radical, and will find yourself totally ostracized.” As the real church comes down the home stretch, the darkened mind has intensified its effort. It’s going to cost you something to belong to God before this is all over.
Many false prophets have come forth. The deceptive is on display. If we were objective, we’d know it. If it doesn’t work, throw it out. Believing with the heart is more than what you say with your mouth. Jesus said in John 12:39, “Therefore, they could not believe...” That crowd could say anything he told them to say, but they couldn’t believe because that is a mechanism of the heart. We are now witnessing the graduation of the ecumenical from the merging of denominations to what we call a spirit only movement. The church is in the final phase. Israel, before God rejected her, had to reject the Trinity of God. In I Samuel 8, God said to Samuel, ‘They have not rejected you, they rejected Me.’ At Calvary, Israel rejected God’s Son. At Pentecost, they rejected the Holy Ghost, and their house was left unto them desolate. The church is there; we have had the Unitarian, a God only movement. At the turn of the twentieth century there emerged a Jesus only movement. Today we are witnessing a Holy Ghost only movement; the Spirit told me, and we leap right out of the Bible and can’t judge it. We’ve come to a unity outside of the Bible. We have a false baptism of the Holy Spirit that makes God a part of idolatry. Aided by the self seekers, the power of God has been reduced to psychology.
Today it’s not an uncommon thing to find in the Pastor’s office a diploma that says he’s a Doctor of psychology. The Idol self has gotten into the religious act and honest people are turning away. The world church is here. Not coming; it is here. The real church was born on the day of Pentecost, it wasn’t everywhere, but it was here. Likewise the world church is here. It’s not everywhere, but it is here on this earth; There is an amalgam. When the Pope got to Turkey, he told Islam, there is no reason that we can’t join forces since we believe in the same God.
The god of Islam and the Roman Church is not the God of the Bible. Islam does not believe in the Christ, therefore Islam cannot know God. “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18). Christ is God! “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:1-3). “There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” There is one way to the presence of God and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t ring the door bell; don’t bow a knee unless you come in the name of Jesus. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
The world church is here and it is Satan’s greatest tool for evil.
